If we had lived in the days of polytheistic worship, I believe we would’ve seen the Hebrew God as feminine, because He is constantly telling us that He is merciful and long-suffering. I believe He is trying to help us to understand that He is not a wrathful God.

"The Lord, The Lord God, merciful and gracious, long-suffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin.” Exodus 34:6, 7.

Jesus saw His suffering in John the Baptist's suffering. Maybe John's death comforted Jesus on the cross, because He was holy too and died tragically for no reason.  So John prepared Jesus for His ministry and for His death as well!
